Small steps create big changes. On a daily basis, they can create more happiness and ease in life. In the spiritual realm, small steps are meaningful as indications of our dedication to practice and commitment to the Divine. Think of running for five minutes longer, creating three times each week instead of one, making an effort to speak kindly, or see the best in the life for an hour—and it’s easy to see why small steps can change your life. Think of small weights on a scale. By adding one more small weight, you can tip the scale in your favour!
1) The first step involves believing in the premise. You must believe the extra minutes involved in positive effort reap change. A few examples could include: loving your reflection in the mirror, taking ten minutes for a walk, resolving to speak differently when involved in a conflict, adding five minutes to your meditation practice, or seeing the world as a positive place more often. It’s also important to develop a positive attitude about your effort. For example, I didn’t exercise or meditate as long as I wanted, but I did exercise/meditate today or added five minutes. In other words, notice and approve of your effort.
2) Change your attitude. See the beauty of your life for at least one hour. What do you like about you? Which parts of your life bring happiness or contentment? What do you love about your body? What are your talents? What do you like about the people in your life? What is particularly beautiful about your surroundings? What are you learning from your spiritual life?
3) Change your perspective. Decide life is working for you. Feel the wave of universal support. Focus on what is working along with your abilities and talents. Notice your efforts to create change. Love any parts of your life that aren’t working. See loveliness wherever you go and seek to see the heart space of the people you meet. Affirm: “The universe is always working everything out for me and putting the right people on my path”.
4) Notice the people who lift your energy. Spend more time with them. Notice the people who don’t, and minimize your time with them whenever possible.
5) Raise your energy level. When your energy and light level is high, life goes more smoothly. Ask how you feel when your energy is high. Visualize having this energy level now. What can you do to raise your energy level? Try a green drink, healthy soup, more water, exercise, a rest with a book, or meditate on a pleasant thought.
6) Extend your practices by five to thirty minutes. Ask intuitively if it’s right for you. See how you feel and alter your practices accordingly. Ask for the feeling of the answers when you meditate. Project this feeling into your life. Ask for a colour for a few hours of the day. Project the colour. Imagine other people resonating harmoniously with you (and your colour.)
7) Nourish the inner child. Play, paint, write, walk, or garden. Create…something!
8) Work with intuition. It takes practice to determine the tone of the inner voice. It’s easily confused with the ego’s inner dialog, at first, or after any big increase in light. Ask questions, note the answer, and find out where you’re always right, generally right, sometimes or always wrong. This helps in learning when (and where) you hear clearly and when you don’t. (Keeping a journal and asking the same questions every day helps. If you consistently receive incorrect answers in one area of life, you know your answer probably won’t come in correctly. Ask something else.)
9) Believe in your power to create change through your thoughts, feeling, and spirituality. Believe in your power to change the world by seeing life in a new way. Everyone has much more power than they know. For the most part, no one focuses on this ability–at least not enough of the time.
10) Believe in your dreams. Hold the feeling of life working out beautifully in your heart. Hold the image of people coming together from a place of higher consciousness to create a new world. Feel the resonance of the goodness in hearts of others who are linked to the light. Feel the resonance growing and touching the world.
